Whether this is your first open or your fifth, there’s a lot of great takeaways that we can use to focus our energy and attention moving forward on your athletic journey.
Before I get into that, we want to know what successes you had during the 2018 CrossFit Open? Did you get your first single under or double-under? First pull-up or muscle-up? Did you do something you never imagined you would be capable of in the past? Did you do your first Rx Open workout this year?
Take a few minutes to reflect on what you have just accomplished by showing up and giving your best effort for every one of the five separate workouts. What was your bright spot over the competition? Where did you feel the most success? What was your favorite part?
Part of building momentum towards fitness goals is acknowledging your past successes. Knowing that you went outside your comfort zone, pushed a little bit harder then you thought you could, digging deep to get every last rep and doing it with a positive attitude are all huge wins on this lifelong path towards optimal health both physically and mentally.
What are the areas you need to focus on moving forward? Do you feel like you need to gain some strength? Lose some body fat to make the gymnastics movements easier? Work on your mobility so that you can squat deeper and improve your form? Is there a movement that you couldn’t do this year that you want to set as a goal to accomplish for next years open?
The open is a litmus test of your current fitness level, and we can use it as a guide to help map out a training plan for you to overcome any obstacles you encountered over the last five weeks.
