OCCUPATION: RCMP Collision Reconstructionist ( yes, I’m the one that closes the Highway at bad crashes ☹)
FAVORITE MOVEMENT / EXERCISE: I have always liked bench press, but I am enjoying deadlifts and cleans and other heavy lift movements that I had little experience with.
MOVEMENT YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING: Double unders are coming along slowly, things like toes to bars and hand stand push ups are also tough for me.
FAVORITE HEALTHY MEAL: My wife makes an awesome salmon or chicken salad and a roasted yam quesadilla.
FAVORITE NOT-SO HEALTHY MEAL: I have a real soft spot for a good burger…oh yeah and anything with chocolate chips.
WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO JOIN CROSSFIT ANCHORED ATHLETICS? I was getting bored at other gyms and had a hard time getting motivated. I had seen Crossfit online and was amazed at how well the athletes could do everything. I finally had the guts to stop in and see Mitch one day and here I am.
WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT CrossFit ANCHORED ATHLETICS? I do like the sign in system, it helps me with motivation. It’s like I have to be at an appointment. But the best part is the coaches and the other members. I feel like I’m part of a team no matter who is there that day. Everyone has their own strengths and you always feel encouraged no matter what kind of day you are having.
WHAT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN IN YOUR BODY COMPOSITION, HEALTH AND PERFORMANCE SINCE STARTING CrossFit? I have definitely trimmed down and have made some significant strength gains in areas I didn’t give much attention to before. The biggest thing is an improvement in core strength.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR SPORTS AND FITNESS BACKGROUND: I grew up playing football, hockey, baseball and the usual stuff. I have always tried to do some sort of fitness like lifting and running which helps a lot with work stresses.
WHAT IS YOUR SHORT TERM (3 Month goal)? I think when I started I wanted 5-6 strict pull ups, and I am continuing to work toward a few more.
WHAT IS YOUR LONG TERM (6-12 Month goal)? I would like increase my OH and back squat and just keep making gains overall. Gold stars are cool!
IF YOU COULD CREATE ANY WOD WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD IT BE CALLED? It might be fun to have one with bench press in it like a Push/Pull. Something like a 21-15-9 with bench press and ring rows or pull ups? Mitch is the WOD God, it’s amazing how he comes up with these WOD’s that make you feel like puking but great at the same time!
WHAT WOULD YOUR ADVICE BE TO SOMEONE WANTING TO START CrossFit BUT IS NERVOUS? I was totally nervous before I started, thinking I wouldn’t be good at anything. Just stop in and see Mitch and Jesi-Rae. You will see how passionate they are about fitness and you will want to get started right away.
TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF OUTSIDE OF CROSSFIT ANCHORED ATHLETICS: Right now I am super busy with being on call at work and we have three kids in different sports. I am very lucky to continue to get a lot of support from my beautiful wife Sheri to continue with Crossfit. I show her the WOD’s and she just says, “You’re nuts”. In our spare time we love boating, camping, movie nights at home and I do apprentice auto mechanic work at my friends shop in Youbou when time permits.
